Beliefs
We believe that salvation is a gift from God. We have not earned salvation, nor can we prove ourselves to be “good enough” through our actions to receive God’s approval. We are saved by grace through faith, and Jesus has paid the penalty of sin through his sacrifice on the cross.
We believe that God is the sovereign Creator. God created all things and recreates the world and people in ways that reveal His glory and love for all.
We believe that faith is lived out loud. God’s unconditional love is given for all and to all, and God seeks for all to be a part of what God’s people. Those who are part of the church allow scripture, tradition, experience, and reason to guide us in living out our faith in everything we do.
We share two sacraments (sacred acts in which Jesus Christ participated) — Baptism and Holy Communion:
- Baptism is the initiation into the church and joins us with all other Christians. It is a symbol of a new life with God and a sign of God’s forgiveness. Baptism is one-time event.
- Holy Communion (The Lord’s Supper) is a holy meal of bread and fruit of the vine (grape juice) that recalls the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through it Christ is present with us and unites us as one Body. We believe in an “Open Table,” where all are invited to partake in Communion for it is a reminder and sign of God’s love for all.
