Warrenton United Methodist Church offers quality weekday early childhood education to children ages 16 months through 5 years through our Warrenton United Methodist Preschool (WUMP) program.

OUR PHILOSOPHY

The Children’s Education programs use a combination of a child-centered and teacher-directed approach, enabling the children the freedom to explore their environment and enhance independence. We believe that education of young children begins at home and our program acts as a supplement to the love and support fostered within the family. We are committed to allowing children to learn naturally through play. Spiritual growth and gentle guidance provided by loving and nurturing teachers fosters academic, social, and spiritual growth.

OUR CURRICULUM

The Curriculum is aimed at the five essential areas of developmental growth found in young children. We use a mix of The Creative Curriculum, Letter People, Handwriting Without Tears, and weekly themes.

Physical

Through play, children learn what they can achieve physically. Craft materials, blocks, musical instruments, and table toys (manipulatives) help develop fine motor skills. Playground, balls, wheel toys, and games foster large motor skills improving balance and coordination.

Social

Children need to learn to live and work within a community by experiencing group living. Sharing, taking turns, verbalizing needs and desires, and feeling comfortable with adults and new situations are all a part of preschool socialization. Self-reliance, being responsible for one’s things, cleaning-up and putting away is also stressed.

Emotional

By providing a safe, loving environment for the child to explore the world around him or her, a child develops independence and trust. Children move freely among the interesting and educational centers, and teachers provide many diverse media by which a child can constructively express feelings and manage personal needs.

Intellectual

Concentration, observation, memory, curiosity, and reasoning are all stimulated through the use of books, stories, finger plays, music, science, cooking, games and puzzles. Field trips are taken periodically to enhance the curriculum and themes.

Spiritual

We openly share our faith that God is real and part of our everyday lives. Chapel is held once a week, and blessings are repeated at snack and lunch and other appropriate times. The sharing of Christian values, and the use of faith symbols and teachings, especially during the holidays, allows children to accept God as a loving example for their lives.
